Mark GILBERT
Architect and Urbanist. Born 1961 in Schenectady, NY, USA. 1983 BSME in Mechanical Engineering, University of Rochester (NY); 1990 Masters of Architecture, Harvard University Graduate School of Design. He subsequently worked as designer and project manager for leading architectural offices in Boston, Zürich and Vienna.
From 1998-2004 he was assistant professor at the Institute for Architectural Theory, Technical University of Vienna; 2005-2020 Adjunct Lecturer for Theory and Design, Institute for Architectural Sciences, Technical University of Vienna. From 1999 until 2009, mark gilbert_architektur designed internationally recognized projects and realizations in Vienna and abroad; since 2007 he has worked in cooperation with Christian Aulinger. In 2009 he founded (together with Christian Aulinger and Georg Kogler) the interdisciplinary planning office trans_city – TC ZT GmbH.
Author and editor of numerous books, urban studies and essays on architecture and urbanism, Mark Gilbert was recipient of the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts Award in 2004, and a grantee of the Hochschulejubiläumsfonds der Stadt Wien in 2005. He served as a full member of the Architectural Advisory Council for Subsidized Housing (Grundstücksbeirat) of the Municipality of Vienna from 2012-2018.
Christian AULINGER
Architect. Born 1964 in Graz, Austria. Studied at the Technical University of Graz, Diploma, graduating in 1992 with a Degree in Architecture. He earned experience as designer and project manager for architecture offices in Graz, Berlin and Vienna from 1990-1996; from 1996-2000 he was consultant for Voest Alpine Industrieanlagenbau, working on national and international industrial projects in Austria, Belarus, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Croatia.
From 2000 until 2009 Christian Aulinger worked in independent practice; his office placed particular emphasis upon the planning of public architecture as well as buildings for industry and the development of construction systems using new timber technologies. In 2009 he founded (together with Mark Gilbert and Georg Kogler) the interdisciplinary planning office trans_city – TC ZT GmbH.
He was a founding member of “ig-architektur / interessensgemeinschaft architekturschaffender” a professional syndicate of young architects (2001), and was chairman of the organization 2005-2007. Since 2006 he is an elected representative to the National Convention of the Federal Chamber of Austrian Architects; from 2014-2018 he served as president of the Austrian Federal Chamber of Architects and Engineers.
